Behind The Lens

Location
This is Kinkaku-ji aka "Temple of the Golden Pavilion" is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Japan thus attracting a large number of visitors. It is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which are World Heritage Sites.
Time
To avoid the crowd go there early before all those tour buses arrive. This picture was taken at 10:15 am a few days before Christmas. But if you are patience enough you should be able to capture a shot without people in it.
Lighting
It was a sunny day with beautiful clouds thus no additional lighting is needed. It is also very calm, no breeze thus I get a mirror like reflections from the lake.
Equipment
I was carrying my Leica V-LUX Typ 114 for this trip and this picture was taken hand-held without flash or filter. I really wish I had my 16-35mm lens with me to capture a wider view of this beautiful temple.
Inspiration
I saw some beautiful shots of this temple when I was doing my research for the trip to Kyoto. Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji are the two temples on top of my to visit places list while I was there in Kyoto.
Editing
This shot was taken on Raw file and post-processed in Lightroom. I did the usual adjustment on the Basic panel and apply graduated filter to the sky lowering the highlights.
In my camera bag
During this trip I only had my Leica V-LUX Typ 114 and an additional battery with me. Nowadays I will also take my Sony A7R2 on 16-35mm lens and 10 stop ND filter with me.
Feedback
Bring along a wider lens, be there early and be patience. After you've capture the shot you wanted remember to spend some time to explore the beautiful garden/landscape surrounding temple.
