A lake so dense with salt it doesn’t freeze even in the middle of winter. Wading in a depth up to my mid-calf, the freezing water filled my boots. The biggest challenge wasn’t the numbing of my feet and toes, it was trying to stand so still that the surrounding water remained undisturbed. Once I moved, the ripples would make their way out and I would have to wait 5-10 minutes before shooting again, after the ripples calmed down enough for the mirrored reflection.
The payoff was the intense colors saturating the atmosphere. Longer exposures allowed my camera’s sensor to capture a full pastel spectrum of wavelengths caused by electromagnetic radiation.
