Sometimes all the predictive technology available doesn’t come through. As well set out over the weekend, the weather and conditions from app to app looked extremely promising. We arrived to find thick, low resting fog that didn’t seem to be registering on any weather services.
The early morning efforts to reach specific areas before sunrise yielded little results. Visibility was low and the light was very flat. After much discussion and weighing our options, we decided to head 30 miles West of our location in hopes that we would be on the edge of the storm. As we drove, the fog cleared and excitement grew. Although it wasn’t the most flattering conditions, we made the most out of the situation.
The skies and ambient light were nothing to be envious of. We had to work for our compositions. I found that a 2 minute exposure made the passing clouds more interesting. The big payoff came in the small things. The silence that surrounded us, and the lack of human presence. The stillness and beauty of a winter wonderland that we observed in an otherwise dry desert.
