Inspiration

To see the Matterhorn was on my bucket list on my first trip to Switzerland. Unfortunately I had an accident on the first day of that trip and never got to visit Zermatt, so we traveled out to Zermatt by train from Interlaken a year later to see it. When we got there it was pretty cloudy so we waited a bit, but the could were holding tight. We walked back close to the train station and stopped for lunch. After lunch the skies had cleared but our train was due to leave returning to Interlaken in a half hour. I asked my wife to stay and shop for souvenirs by the train station and power walked back up the trail as fast as I could with my 40 lb. camera bag in tow. Once I got to my best vantage point, I took as many shots as I could (after I caught my breath), and then power walked back down to meet my wife at the train station. I have several shots of the Matterhorn, but this was my favorite one.

Editing

As I originally shot this in color I got a little Ansel Adams in me so I made it Black & White and then darkened some areas and lightened others. I applied several filters and then didn't like to outcome so I started over till I liked the final picture.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark III, Canon lenses, 24-70mm, 70-300mm, 50mm, 100mm macro.

Feedback

Keep shooting and have patience. If you need to take a break and go back later to get your shot, do it. It took me a year to get this one.
