Taken in Lakagígar southern Iceland in September of 2016, this image features an autumnally colored miniature birch tree expressing from the top of what some of the locals refer to as the "mossy lumps" - a congregation of think, beautifully green moss extending for miles as cover over the lava rocks left behind from an eruption in 1783-84. The Lakagígar eruption had a profound effect on weather patterns and life far from the reaches of its lava. But seeing this beautiful presence of nature's healing touch is heartening to think on, with gentle, rolling beauty taking over where the lava had once wrought its havoc upon the earth. Love always wins.
