Location
This photo was taken during a vacation to Belize. We were taking a guided walk and there were just 3 of us in the group, so made it less cluttered when it was time to take any photographs.Time
This was mid afternoon. It was a generally sunny day.Lighting
The lighting could be tricky at times. The trail was windy, so the position of the sun kept changing. Also being in Belize there was plenty of tall trees, so could be shadows at times.Equipment
Handheld Nikon D7000, Lens was a 200-500mm f5.6, taken at 1/500 at 5.6. No flash was used.Inspiration
I had intended to take as many bird/nature shots as I could. It was my first time in Belize, so lots of "firsts". I first spotted the Hummingbird hovering higher in the trees, but was lucky enough for it to land on a small branch. I fired off a burst a shots to at least identify the subject. This pose seemed different than most hummingbird pictures I had seen, so I decided this was the one.Editing
There was some post processing. The ISO was 3600 so some noise reduction, and sharpening. It was cropped and I tried to keep the subject central. In my camera bag
My body as a Nikon D7000, but I would like to an an FX type when funds allow. Main lenses are 200-500mm f5.6, 70-200mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8 and a Tokina 11-17mm which I don't use often. I have a flash which I need to learn more about. A monopod and a tripod.Feedback
I this kind of shot is more about being out and about in nature, being patient, and the usual element of luck.
