Behind The Lens

Location

We took this photography in the infamous Hotel Edison in the heart of New York City.

Time

The time of day was approximately early afternoon, where the sunlight was coming in through the windows perfectly to give a nice hue to the room.

Lighting

This image is completely window lighting. We used the curtains on the window to diffuse the light coming in from outside. Luckily the sun wasn't directly peering in. The sunlight was actually bouncing off an adjacent building in addition to the curtain diffusion.

Equipment

The only thing that we used to make this shot happen was a chair for us to stand on and a camera.

Inspiration

In this photograph we tried to portray a message or story. We wanted to show the parallels of military life, and how it is difficult to manage a life here and a life across seas. Throughout these parallel journeys there are moments where the lines cross. It's a moment where we say, "I'll meet you halfway" And that's where the magic happens.

Editing

Just basic color correction.

In my camera bag

Depends on where I'm going, but usually I have a trinity of lenses (wide, standard, telephoto), a few bodies including crop sensor, a flash or two, tripod. Otherwise nothing exuberantly tedious unless the occasion calls for it.

Feedback

Tell a story...My father always once told me, a picture is more than just a thousand words...it's a story you tell. Just like any piece of art or story, make sure you have a thesis. What is the point you're trying to get across to the viewer. Keep that in mind and you'll always have a memorable photo.
