Behind The Lens

Location

A renowned restaurant had asked for some publicity with a new chief with the focus on comfort food using local produce.

Time

The chief made us breakfast with a few different meals and this one took my fancy.

Lighting

the meal was placed under a heat light so didn't need to use any more light. wanted to give it that "yum yum" warm look under the heater.

Equipment

used a Nikon D850 with a 100mm lens with settings F7 ISO 640 1/320 sec and +3 EV . The kitchen was very small so could only use a monopod pole. Timing was important because the chief wanted the small flowers to look fresh and under a heat lamp they wilted very quickly.

Inspiration

Was asked by a media writer to tag along. Always keen to try something different other than the traditional landscape to improve what I'm trying to achieve. The best part of this shoot was we got to sample the product after. Next time will be going back without the camera.

Editing

Cropped edges in Lightroom and added a small amount of brightness.

In my camera bag

Always carry 2 lenses but depending on what I'm going to photograph. Always have the Sigma 24-70 on the camera (Nikon D850) as the first option. May also use Macro 100mm or 12-24mm sigma. Carry a tripod and Monopod pole to the photo shoot and decide before hand what I'm going to be able to use. Always try and use natural light and if not available use 1 or 2 LED soft lights.

Feedback

Don't be frightened to try something outside your comfort zone. You can only improve by making a mistake.
