Location
This photo happened on a Canada roadtrip through the Rockies together with my girlfriend Hanna. We stayed a few days around Canmore at a lake called Spray Lake. One morning we woke up quite early and went for a sunrise hike. The stone just looked magical with the reflection and the mountains.Time
Early morning! The one and only time to get landscape images done haha. So yeah, I do love sunrises as they are the calm and beautiful start into the day.Lighting
I was looking for a moody early morning shot with some but not too many clouds around the mountains. It worked out perfectly as I got some light clouds and fog around the water, but also the early morning alpen glow in the background. Such a wonderful light combination.Equipment
The equipment used was a Nikon D750 fullframe together with the love of my life, the 14-24mm f2.8, a pure landscape photography beast. Shot was taken by my girlfriend Hanna Kropp though without a tripod.Inspiration
Definitely the stone. Images with human content do fascinate me, especially when the human being is at a spot where you would not expect someone. Same with that stone, it's too far in the water to reach it without any extra effort. I had to walk there with the water above my hips in order to get there. It was freezing cold and I got a cold after that, but it was definitely worth it.Editing
Usually I do edit landscape shots a bit in order to get some more colours and contrast out of it, as well as details. Lightroom is awesome for that, especially for clarity and sharpening. That way the image get's a more dramatic touch :)In my camera bag
Such a good question! Camera gear first, so a Nikon D750, Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 and a 50mm f1.8 portrait lens. Drone next, so a Mavic Pro with additional battery packs and the controller. Then I'm adding lots of extra stuff to my F-Stop Ajna bag, like a hammock and something to read, extra batteries, outdoor survival equipment and first aid stuff, charging equipment, lot's of water and snacks.Feedback
Personally I'm not that much into planning. I'm checking the area though by checking locations in Instagram in order to get some inspiration. But everything else works by getting up early and going out there into the wild :)
