Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Kruger National Park in South Africa. Its a huge park where you can continue to go and never know what you will find!

Time

It was around evening time so it wasn't yet Golden hour but wasn't the harshest time of day

Lighting

Not really, the lighting was actually bad but the subject is so breath taking and the rest of the photo so out of focus that it makes up for the lighting.

Equipment

I used a Canon 7d. I also had a rental lens for the weekend when I shot this. Its an absolute beast... the canon 400 2.8.

Inspiration

It was really cool actually. We had a weekend planned at Kruger National Park. We finished up work headed over. We got to the park with about two hours or less till the gates close and we had to be out. But we decided its still always nice to take a drive and so we did. Its wild you never know what your going to get you can go for a week and not see a cat, but in our less then 2 hour day we happened across this beautiful cheetah, and her cub. Now I have never seen a cub in the wild so I went crazy shooting it. But it was in the grass so the beautiful background effect that you see here didnt happen. Eventually the cub ran into some taller grass and all we could see was the mom so this photo wasn't the subject of all the excitement almost an after thought until you think to yourself wow look at this Cheetah infant of you! So I started shooting away and the hight of the cheetah above the grass and the sharpness of it made this out to be the photo of the day, and one of the best I've taken!

Editing

Yeah I always touch up in light room, but no real major tweaks to share. Just standard, White Balance contrast highs lows, Sharpening.

In my camera bag

Normally I have a canon 7d and a 50mm lens. A cheap kit, one that im hoping to change soon as the canon 7d makes me feel a bit limited. I have a passion for video as well as photo and the fact that you can't use continuous auto focus while shooting video on the 7d is a bit tough. Having said that i love the 7d for shooting photos they are Beautiful ive even done a wedding with that kit before!

Feedback

Just take alot of photos and continue to learn new techniques, and take photos of things you love your passion will show through!
