This is a typical river you can find in Calabria, in Southern Italy. We don't call them river or torrent, but "fiumara", which is a particular kind of river which is dry during warm seasons and that becomes in flood during rainy season. This one in the picture is the Amendolea, that during ancient Greek colonization (this area was called "Magna Graecia") is supposed to have been the boundary between the powerful "polis" (cities) of Rhegion (Reggio Calabria, now) and Locri Epizefiri (only Locri, now).
