On a blazing hot day in Belgium we entered an abandoned wool processing factory. This machine room was an amazing place to shoot! The old and rusted surroundings give an amazing contrast to the models body.

I just wanted to leave a quick note to say thank you for participating in my "Portraits on Location" challenge. While I ultimately chose another photo as the winner, this one was one of my 100 favorites in a field that was just shy of 2000 entries.

Location
The photo was taken at an Urbex location somewhere in Belgium. It used to be a wool processing factory, but has been abandoned for years. This specific room used to be the boiler room.Time
It was early afternoon when we arrived at this location.Lighting
The lighting conditions where far from ideal. The sun outside was very bright and inside it was pretty dark. I only used the available natural light, but had to use HDR to get the correct balance.Equipment
I used My SOny A77II camera in combination with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 ART lens. Because I used multliple exposures for the HDR I used a tripod to avoid movement between the separate frames.Inspiration
Urbex photography in itself is already something really exciting! You enter a place that has been abandoned for many years and most of the time people are prohibited from entering the area. You try to capture the decay of what once was a lively place. When you combine this decay with the freshness of a nude female body this contrast enhances the whole scene. Added to that you have to stay alert not to be detected while you also have to focus on getting the composition and lighting correct.Editing
I always try to stay as close to reality as possible. I used multiple exposures to get the highlights and shadows close to what we see with our own eyes. For the rest I did not do a lot of enhancements to colours or sharpness. In my camera bag
Normally my bag contains this: Camera: Sony A77II Lens1: Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 SSM Lens2: Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART Lens3: Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 ART Lens4: Minolta 35-70mm f3.5-4.5 Remote: Simple wired shutter release Tripod: Velbon Sherpa 5370D Filters: Genustech 77mm Eclipse ND Fader + various size adapters to fit it to every lens I have. Also I always carry plenty of spare, charged, batteries and empty SD cards.Feedback
Planning is key with this branch of photography. You have to scout locations and possible opportunities to enter a location. I was lucky enough to have a model who is not afraid to get adventurous for these kind of things and she is a very good friend. That makes things a lot easier. It's also very important to wear good shoes and clothing that will protect you a little from sharp objects. Don't bring to much equipment! Don't try to make an erotic picture out of this, keep it decent.
