Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken in one of the seven small gorges of the 'sept gorges' complex near the small town Berdorf in Luxembourg. These rock formations are typical for this area where you can make amazing walks through the steep and beautiful canyons!
Time
The photo was made at the end of a really nice walk. It was in the afternoon around 15:15 and it was cloudy and raining every now and then.
Lighting
Lighting was very difficult. There were thick clouds and every now and then some rain was falling down. To make this photo I needed a f1.8 aperture with a 1/25sec shutter speed and ISO 2500 to capture enough light. Fortunately the clouded sky worked as a big softbox, so I had really soft light. Had I have direct sunlight, the photo would have been over and under exposed everywhere.
Equipment
I did not use a tripod, it was shot from hand using a Sony A77II and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 ART lens. Of course my sensor stabilisation was turned on and I was leaning against the canyon wall to stabilise myself.
Inspiration
The moody and narrow canyon made me think about a scene in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, where Aragorn enters the city of the dead. It was a little claustrophobic to walk through. Yes, it was possible to completely walk through this narrow canyon!
Editing
I did some post processing in Lightroom. Remove noise to start with, I used ISO 2500, which causes some serious noise. Further I warmed up the colour temperature and did some sharpening, upped the contrasts an highlights and enhanced the brown and greens a little to make them come out stronger.
In my camera bag
I this case I only carried my Sony A77II camera, Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 ART and Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lenses, an ND filter for waterfalls and a tripod.
Feedback
In this case we went through a canyon where others didn't go. Therefore there were still a lot of intact leafs on the ground and the green walls untouched. I choose not to include sky to create a more pressing and claustrophobic atmosphere and to avoid a painful post-processing to get the sky well lit.
