Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my office where I worked as a translator. My wife worked on the same floor as well, and it was her cup of coffee! "Please look and take a picture", she called after pouring some hot water into the cup.

Time

It was daytime, and do not remember the exact time. I took this picture inside the room; therefore, the time is not that important as it would be for landscapes, for example.

Lighting

I put this cup onto white windowsill to have a clean background. Therefore, I had plenty of light coming through the large window.

Equipment

This time, I used my phone to take the picture. Unfortunately, I left my camera at home that day as there were no plans to go out for a photo shoot.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this picture was dictated by the situation itself. There are some lucky moments that happen every day. All you need is to have a camera or your smartphone to capture them.

Editing

Yes, I did some post-processing. Mainly, it was cleaning of the background and the edge of the coffee cup in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

This particular time, I had no bag at all! However, in my bag, I usually have my Nikon D700 camera, a couple of prime lenses, such as 50mm f/1.4 and 24mm f/2.8 and my flash unit SB-900. Recently, I added a zoom lens 35-70mm f/2.8 to my list of lenses.

Feedback

Sometimes, you just need to be in the right place at the right time! Try to relocate your subject if possible to have as clear background as possible. If not, try to search for a better angle to avoid any disturbing details at the back. Good luck!
