Fort Ross is an old Russia settlement on the North California Pacific Coast. During seasonal festivals it gathers big crowds with bright traditional dresses, music and rites performed by the amazing group of Russian tradition enthusiasts. We were especially lucky this time around: the weather was awful, there were few visitors, so we had a more intimate experience and the light coming inside through windows was especially enigmatic.

Wonderful capture! I was sure you had really taken the photo in "the Old World".

Location
Fort Ross is an old Russia settlement on the North California Pacific Coast. These days it is a historical park that attracts the fast growing Russian community and many curious non-Russians too.Time
The photo was taken in the middle of a very rainy day.Lighting
We were especially lucky this time around: the weather was awful, there were few visitors, so we had a more intimate experience and the light coming inside through windows was especially enigmatic. The light was bouncing off dark wood walls softly filling in shadows.Equipment
I had my Sony a 7ii with Zeiss 55mm lens.Inspiration
For my son it was a place where all Russian Falk Tales I was reading to him were coming to life. They have everything: a magical Russian stove, samovars, mortars, crane well and of course loud cannons and a bell. During seasonal festivals it gathers big crowds with bright traditional dresses, music and rites performed by the amazing group of Russian tradition enthusiasts called Russian House Kedry. The whole experience was absolutely authentic.Editing
There was no need for heavy post–processing of this image. I mostly just enhanced colors. In my camera bag
I am happy with my Sony a 7ii, it is a light camera with a very comfortable grip. There are three lenses in my bag: Zeiss 55mm that I am using almost everywhere, Zeiss 35-16 mm and Batis 1.8/85, to me it is the best portrait lens.Feedback
When the scene meets perfect light is very important to establish a relationship with the main character of your picture. Pay attention if a person that you are taking picture of feels comfortable in her elements. Enjoy the moment through the person's on your picture eye.
