Location
I took this photograph on a trip we did to Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park, AB Canada. There is a trail called Tonquin Valley Loop that crosses a beautiful glacier lake into the horses corrals from a guided tour company I believe.Time
It was taken on the afternoon on our way bake from Mt. Edith Cavell hike. We stop at the Tonquin Valley Loop to see the lake created from the glaciers at Mt. Edith Cavell. There is a bridge that we crossed and discover the horse stable. My daughter loving animals decided to feed the horses with hay that was there and I though that it would be a nice moment to capture thru my camera.Lighting
It was a cloudy day, and the time of the day was not close to the golden hour. But the clouds covering the sun every couple of minutes helped. It was just a matter of timing the clouds to get the required lighting.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5100 with my wide angle lens (sigma 10-20mm) as I was doing landscape photography and I decided to spontaneously take the picture of my daughter and the horse.Inspiration
Just the natural approach of my daughter and the horse response to her.Editing
Just basic light, adjustment and turn the raw file into a black and white photograph. In my camera bag
Nikon D5100 plus a 35mm Nikkor, a Sigma wide angle and a 55-200 nikkor zoom. I also carry a a Nikon SB-700 flash a Manfrotto tripod and a remote shutter release. Plus the regular extra batteries and cleaning accessories.Feedback
Always carry your camera and be ready to shoot the spontaneous moments. Don't be afraid as sometime you will be surprise with the results. They can be better than the most planned photo shoot. Spontaneity takes away the pressure on both sides the photographer and the subject so normally you get more natural results.
