I had kept hearing about this infamous ice cave in the heart of the mountains out in Whistler. We decided to make the search and eventually found it. I have never felt so instantly humbled by nature. Being in this space was a privilege, somewhere so un-human and dangerous. A place where no living creature belongs.

I took this in Whistler, BC while on a ski trip for the weekend.Time
This was taken right in the middle of the day. There was a thick fog in the valley warmly illuminated by the hidden sun above. It was challenging to ski in but very serene and calm.Lighting
As I walked deeper into the ice cave I turned around to see the light softly crawling against the ice walls and I was blown away. The natural lighting was plenty enough to create an absolutely breath taking scene in an already, spectacular, cave.Equipment
I shot this using a Canon 60D and a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. I did not carry my tripod in my bag simply because it was just extra weight and made the bag a bit more cumbersome.Inspiration
I had heard stories from a lot of friends who told me about this epic ice cave in whistler. So my friend and I set out one weekend to find it. It was extremely easy to get to and easily accessible. At first I had my reservations about walking in as I stood at the mouth of this giant cave of ice, having had close calls with ice chunks falling from the ceiling or even having caves completely collapse soon after I walked out in the past. This cave was a magical, yet extremely intimidating place. A place that I felt extremely out of place in. However scary, it was peaceful in an odd way. I wanted to capture the serenity of this place to be able to look back on it with a smile.Editing
I touched it up in Lightroom. Nothing too major, I boosted the highlights slightly and burned some of the edges of frame. Otherwise thats about it!In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 60D with my Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 in my bag along with the Big Stopper ND by Lee Filters. I absolutely love that thing! I like to shoot wide angle stuff typically so when I am out in the mountains like in this case, thats typically all I carry in my camera bag. I sometimes will bring along my tripod but a nice pile of snow and a plastic bag works wonders as a DIY tripod when your in a pinch.Feedback
When you go to a location what mood to you want to portray? Thinking about this will help dictate the sorts of images you will take during your time somewhere. Thats how I always go about it!
