Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken down the street from an airbnb my friends and I rented to go skiing over valentines day. The mountain in the picture is the back side of Zermatt.

Time

It was late in the evening, I'm honestly not sure what time it was by the time I took this shot.

Lighting

This was one of those rare situations (for me at least) where the light just sort of worked. I thought the lights from the apartments gave the town a very mountain village feel and it was a relatively light night out so the mountain towering over the town just looked that much more powerful.

Equipment

For this shot I used my Canon 5D mark iii with a 24-105L lens and my manfrotto befree tripod.

Inspiration

Ever since I first got into photography, night photos have always been the quickest to draw my eye in. When I went on a ski trip to Cervinia (the Italian side of Zermatt) I went out after everyone had gone to bed to see one of the best views I could have hoped for.

Editing

I did very little post processing to this image. I put it in light room, softened it up a bit to get ride of some of the noise and called it a day!

In my camera bag

I generally keep my 24-105 and my 17-40 lenses as well as my tripod with me. Im currently working on expanding my kit to include a 70-200 f2.8 :)

Feedback

I'm not a professional photographer by any stretch of the imagination. For this particular shot, I used a long exposure on a full frame sensor. The size of the sensor helped immensely with this shot but also having the ability to crank up my iso without much fear of overwhelming noise is always a benefit to low light shots.
