Location
This photograph has been taken in St-Alban, Qc, Canada. It's a river with many cascades and falls.Time
The photo has been taken early in the morning about 30 minutes after the sunrise.Lighting
In landscape photography, I use only the natural light. I always scout the area a couple of times, I check with the Photographer's Ephemeris when it would be the light that I would like to see there.Equipment
I use a Nikon D810 with Zeiss lenses, 18,25,50 and 85mm.As filter, I'll use Lee filters holder with Lee and Singh-Ray filters and polarizer. The tripod is a Really Right Stuff as well as the ball head and the panoramic head. I try to walk with a minimum of gear so sometimes to scout I'll use a Leica d-lux top 109.Inspiration
This area makes me think about the Jurassic era that we can see in some movies. The first time I saw that, I sat there for a time at just looking around and listening at water scraping those walls.Editing
Sure, I did processing but just to reinforce some areas like the sky and rocks on both side of the river. Never I add any kind of color or create effects that are not there. I try to bring the picture as I could see it at that time.In my camera bag
Nikon d810, Zeiss 18,25,50 and 85mm plus some filters like ND and polarizer. Forehead light, batteries, bear repellent, tripod, ball head and finally a good insects repellent.Feedback
You find a nice spot, go back there many times until you'll find the best light and what you want to bring back from there. Sometimes, I can go 20 times at the same place, walking around trying to find something original that will speak to me.
