Location
Lincoln City, Oregon- just north of NewportTime
It was taken later in the day, not quite sunset but on it's way. My daughter was attending an event at the Shilo Inn just up the hill from where this was taken, and I had just walked outside during one of the breaks.Lighting
That particular day was cloudy, windy an rainy- as many days are on the Oregon Coast. The lighting was one of those fleeting moments where the clouds part a fill everything with that golden glow. You can see by the shadowing there were clouds everywhere... and it was one of those brief moments where I just happen to have my camera at the right time.Equipment
I had an all-in-one Olympus SP510UZ at the time- not a great camera... was hit and miss when it came to image quality. I've since moved up to a better Canon DSLR, and my only regret about this picture is not having the gear that would have made the sharpness an resolution of this picture amazing.Inspiration
This was one of those unexpected images that takes you by surprise when you are going through the pictures you've shot that day. I wasn't seeking out to take this pictures, sitting hours in the parking lot waiting for the perfect moment.... Just happen to have my camera and the moment was there.Editing
I upped the contrast a bit, upped saturation a bit, burned in some details in the clouds, and some slight vignetting... but nothing to extravagant. In my camera bag
Currently I carry a Canon 60D with 2 kit lenses, which is my first decent SLR Camera I've owned since the ye olde days of my Pentax MX. Canon just released the 5D Mark IV, which I'm hoping means really great deals on those 5D Mark III's needing to be cleared out!Feedback
This might sound really general rather than specific, but sometime moments just happen- as it did with this picture. That's the most I can say about trying to capture something similar. As a photographer and a designer, I see the world differently... I see moments in black and white... in saturated colors... in light and shadow. Sometimes what is seen doesn't translate to a great capture, but when it does... it becomes the moment that fulfills one's love for photography. There are many beyond-amazing photographers on Viewbug, and I go through hundreds of pictures a day, particularly the contest winners, studying what has made those images as good as they are. Set the bar high, keep learning, and always strive to be better.
