Location
This image was taken at the Bluebell Woods in Micheldever, Hampshire UK. It's a beautifully quiet area without any interruption.Time
This was my first ever photo shoot with a professional model. The photo was taken in May 2015. We drove up fairly early in the day. It was me and a fellow photographer who was my classmate on an evening photography course I was taking at the time. This was our last setup and my last shot of the day. My friend was helping wrap the fabric around the model and launch it at just the right time.Lighting
The lighting was all natural. It was quite a bright day so by the time we took this shot the sun was almost above us. Luckily a few clouds helped soften the light a bit though.Equipment
I used my trusty Nikon D3200 and my favourite lens the 50mm f1.8g. The camera was mounted on the tripod too.Inspiration
I took a few shots around the woods throughout the day and having spoken to the model and discovering she had a dancing background I felt we had to get a few shots that showcase her dancing. Although plenty of props were available, I wanted to show the movement of the model. The dress didn't do that well on it's own so the addition of the translucent fabric really helped capture the movement.Editing
I only made small adjustments to the white balance. Otherwise it is pretty much as it was shot.In my camera bag
I like to keep my bag pretty simple. I have my D3200, my kit lens, my 50mm lens. I have a set of filter, tripod, flashgun and some cleaning gear. Away from the photography gear I have other useful items like electricians tape, a flashlight and also a lego figure which kind of looks like me for some fun images at the end of a day shooting.Feedback
I guess as an amateur myself, the best advice I can offer is to other amateurs. As I mentioned previously, this was my first shoot with a paid model. I was really nervous and had no idea how to direct her. Her experience really helped and after breaking the ice with general chit chat we were soon into a nice rhythm and she just started pulling some poses and I was shooting away. Get out there with a few friends and bounce ideas off each other but don't let your friends take the same shot. Always do something different.
