Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. There are old log homes in the park that were built by homesteaders and are preserved by the park service.

Time

This was taken at late afternoon. It was an overcast and kind of dreary day.

Lighting

This was taken with just natural light. I tried putting a backlight on the girl, but it just didn't look natural.

Equipment

The camera was a canon 7d. The lens was a canon 24-105 1:4. I did use a tripod and remote shutter release.

Inspiration

This is an engagement photo. The couple wanted their photos taken in the mountains, so we made a day of it, complete with a hot dog lunch.

Editing

I used Lightroom to make some light and tone adjustments, but very little.

In my camera bag

I have a 7d or a 6d (depends on situation). 18-55 Canon 24-105 Canon 85 Canon 70-200 Canon. I carry a 430EX11 speedlight, cable release, filters and candy.

Feedback

I love taking photos in the mountains, especially on special occasions such as these engagement photos. I like natural looking photos and where can you get more natural than in the mountains. Once you get the couples or kids or whatever you're shooting to start paying attention to each other instead of you, then the rest is easy.
