Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while I was on a school trip to Silicone Valley. This part of the trip was a bit of free time for us during our time in Seattle.

Time

We were on our way to dinner at a seafood restaurant and I noticed this beautiful Ferris wheel out by the waters edge. The sun was just setting when I first saw it and I took some photos of it from afar, not realizing that it was right outside the place we were eating! So after dinner I managed to get this awesome angle.

Lighting

The dark sky behind the bright lights made for an excellent contrast. I'm so happy there weren't any clouds that night. The shot wouldn't have been the same if there were.

Equipment

Being a young photographer with little money I only have my Pentax camera with the lense it came with. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.

Inspiration

The colours of the lights against the dark night sky just screamed, "photograph me!"

Editing

I am a strong believer that if a photo needs more than straighten or brightening slightly after it's been taken, then it isn't a good photo anymore. With much more editing it becomes an artwork rather than an artistic photograph.

In my camera bag

Sometimes I have a tripod with me, but that's only if I know I'm going to be taking photos. Otherwise I simply have my camera and spare batteries.

Feedback

Be patient. Try lots of angles, you might be surprised by what you see at a strange angle.
