You are not supposed to walk and or stand on the arches. If this photo gets submitted to the parks you would be charged.

I was sad to see another example of USA National Parks being disrespected. Is it really necessary to stand on a natural arch that has a 5,000 plus foot drop on the other side. Arches are created when stone falls from the underside. Your actions speed up this process by weakening the stone structure.

Location
I took this photo at the Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, US.Time
At sunrise in february. It was around 7AM.Lighting
This place is well known for its sunrises. The sun rays make it seems like the Arch inflames itself creating a very spectacular and unique color. Shooting the Mesa Arch at this time of the day is like painting the rocks with early day sun rays.Equipment
Nikon D7000 with Sigma 18-50. Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I was there very early before the sunrise and when the sun began to rise. I took a lot of photos of the arch and the landscape with this special lighting. But the most memorable feeling for me was to be there enjoying the early day sun rays lighting the rocks, the arch and the landscape and literally see the beginning of a new day. I felt lucky and happy to begin my day like this. I wanted a memory of those feelings. So I had this idea of someone on top of the arch facing and welcoming the sunrise.Editing
Yes. I used Lightroom to enhance the colors a little bit, to lighten the shadow and to darken the white areas. In my camera bag
Nikon D7000, Sigma 18-50, Nikon 70-300.Feedback
You should be there before the sunrise to enjoy the light rays appears. When the sun began to rise it goes very fast. The moments where the Arch inflame itself and the colors are spectacular is very short; an hour after sunrise is already too late! I personally think that winter is better than summer because you can see snow on top of the LaSal mountains in the background. A tripod is very useful. Be sure to come back later in the day to enjoy the completely different look this spot have in the afternoon.
