Location
For this shoot, I met with dancer Sandra Turcinovic (@sandraturcinovic) in my studio, which is basically an office floor with all the charm and lack thereof. For this shoot, it was the perfect setting. I just wish the ceiling would be a bit higher...Time
The light was controlled by the flashes, the time of the day was therefore not that relevant.Lighting
Four flashes were used to light her silhouette: One studio flash with a striplight and grid left and right behind the dancer respectively and two compact flashes on the ceiling behind her.Equipment
Apart from two studio flashes (Godox QT600) and two compact flashes (Godox TT600) I used a black backdrop, radiotrigger, Nikon D800 with a Tamron 70-200.Inspiration
I just love to play with light... Having a dancer seemingly suspended in kind of nowhere gives a somewhat surreal effect. This in combination with her movement, which is emphasised by the ribbon and her hair - I just love it!Editing
In post, I applied general and local exposure correction and darkened the ceiling. Did I mention the ceiling is way too low?In my camera bag
In the studio, I typically use a Nikon D800 with either a Nikon 1.8 85mm or a Tamron 70-200mm. As lights I typically use studio flashes such as Godox QT600 and Jinbei HD600v, sometimes in combination with compact flashes such as Godox TT600. However, as many of my shoots are on the beach or underwater, the content of my bag varies a lot.Feedback
Be nice to your model, play with light, have fun!
