Location
This photo was taken at Tiger Beach, Grand Bahamas.Time
This photo was taken in the late morning.Lighting
Underwater you loose colors very quickly with depth and distance to you subject. Thus you have to bring your own light source. I personally use a pair of Sea&Sea YS-D2 strobes. This was also shot partially into the sun so I have to shoot in manual mode.Equipment
Nikon D7200 with Nauticam housing. Tokina 107 lens with zen 100 dome. Dual Sea&Sea YS-D2 strobes.Inspiration
I love diving with sharks. While they definitely raise a primal fear in all of us after interacting with them in the water you realize they are not mindless killing machines but beautiful animals.Editing
This shot thankfully did not require much post processing. It was cropped to straighten the horizon and a small adjustment to highlights and contrast. In my camera bag
In my underwater kit I have Nikon D7200 in Nauticam housing. The lenses I use are tokina 107 for reefscapes and large animals, and Nikon 60 and 100 for fish portraits and macro. The ports are zen 100 and respective nauticam port for the Nikon lenses.Feedback
Like shooting any other wild animal, I don’t think it is possible to plan a specific shot. I go with a relative ideas of what kind of shot I am looking for and then shoot like crazy.
