Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in one of the doorways of the stable leading to the black background.Time
The photo was taken in the late afternoon leading to a the golden light.Lighting
In order to get the black background you have to make sure that you don’t have any light coming in from behind the subject.Equipment
My D600 and a Nikkor 2-70 mm lens was the only equipment used.Inspiration
I have known this horse since he was born. He has finished his racing career and it was a honor to capture this photo of him!Editing
I removed some visible dust from the background and increased the clarity and saturation in order to make the photo pop!In my camera bag
Except for the camera itself, a Nikon D600, a spare battery and an extra memory card are must haves in my bag, no matter what. When it comes to lenses it all depends on what my plans are for the day. If I'm going to be spending a lot of time on foot I usually bring my Nikkor 24-70mm lens or 24-120mm lens. If I'm going to be spending a lot of time in one place or traveling by car I always bring my Nikon 200-500mm lens as I find it to be a very fun lens to work with.Feedback
Be very mindful of how the light moves and where your light sources are, being aware of this makes a huge difference for the end result!
