Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the front deck of our house. The poor little bird had flown into one of the windows and was recuperating long enough for me to take some photos. I have had a love of cameras since my mother's Brownie. I spent my babysitting money on my first side view finder 35mm Petri. Playing mainly in auto with that and my year's later Canon AE-1, I just enjoyed seeing the results of the photos on film. It wasn't until several digital cameras later that I took a basic course on line and learned how to utilize my camera in manual.

Time

This was an opportunity that presented itself mid afternoon, close to 3:00 pm.

Lighting

It was not of the best lighting as it was on the north side of the house and under the roof of the deck.

Equipment

The camera used was the Canon EOS R with the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM at 105.0mm. I was down on my belly to capture this beauty and try not to frighten it.

Inspiration

Inspiration was presented in the form of my husband coming to the house and telling me there was a bird that had hit the window and would I like to photograph it. I rushed out and was able to take several pictures of the precious little model who fortunately was not in any distress just needing a bit of rest. I watched it fly away after about ten minutes.

Editing

There was not a lot of post processing performed. I tried to have most of the settings correct while on photographing as I did have time. 1/125, F5.6, ISO 1600 and the exposure compensation was at +1/3.

In my camera bag

I usually have just my cell phone available. But now I do have my R6 loaded with the 24-105 RF and my R with the 800 RF ready to shoot on the dining room table so I can grab them.

Feedback

Just grab the opportunity if the equipment is readily available.
