Location
I met with Mette Brands on a summer evening on the beach in The Hague.Time
We started off with her silhouette against the setting sun and later proceeded to a different setup after sunset.Lighting
I used a 600 mm lens, which allows the sun to be very large behind the model, but the clouds were not on our side that night. Anyway, I love her beautiful silhouette against the orange sky, which was the only light source.Equipment
A Sigma 150-600 mm lens was attached to my Nikon D800. For reducing shake, the camera was on a tripod.Inspiration
I love a woman's silhouette in front of a large setting sun, though the sun was not on our side that night. The wind and the cloth add to the dreamy atmosphere.Editing
In post, I did some cropping plus some contrast and exposure adjustment. In my camera bag
It really depends on the shoot (beach, studio, underwater...). At the end of the day, it's not so much the equipment, but the light that makes or kills a photo.Feedback
Use a tele lens and a lot of distance to your model for a large setting sun. It also means that communication is difficult; talk about all details in depth before shooting. Consider a radio. Be nice to your model and have fun!
