Location
I did not travel far for this shot as it happened outside my house so I only had to go to the garden gate.Time
I was awakened around 01:15 on the 9th May 2019 by the crack of a windscreen, pop from the tyres and bangs of a car fire outside my home. After a quick look outside I grabed my camera since it is not everyday you see this. After taking a few shots from the bedroom window I decided to go into the garden for some closer shots. A short time after getting down there the fire brigade turned up and got to work.Lighting
The problem faced was to expose enough for the fireman but not to have the fire blow out the highlights. I feel this was achieved even though it is bright where the car is.Equipment
Just my Nikon D850 and Nikon 24-79 2.8 was taken with me to get this shot.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the demise of a car on fire. From the series shot of the car I preferred this shot showing the intense fire even though it obscured the car. With all the smoke and fire it hid the street lights and makes the fire look aggressive and the bravery of the firefighter doing what they do.Editing
This has had very little post-processing, exposure and shadows were raised. Highlights were dropped a little and it was cropped by a small amount. In my camera bag
My standard walk around kit is comprised of my beloved Nikon D850 which I can not praise enough. Because of weight issues I normally only carry my Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 an a Nikon 50 f/1.8, these seem to cover nearly every situation for me if I don't have anything in mind to shoot. Lens such as my Nikon 200-500 and Nikon 105 generally only come out when I have something that need them. Lee polariser, little stopper and big stopper also live in my bag, the super stopper has not been used for a long time so it stays at home. Batteries, shutter release, lens cloth, Lenser tourch, note book and Peak Design Cuff and Slide also come with me. All this along with my Manfrotto 055 tripod are stored in a Lowepro Flipside AW400 backpackFeedback
This is one of those situations that just happen. Just know how far you want to push your ISO and how to change your camera setting in the dark (or when you are half asleep). Watch those highlights from the fire.
