Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Nashville Zoo.

Time

This was taken around mid day. We decided to take a walk through the zoo in late May, before the crush of the summer tourist season. The day started out quite overcast, but the sun came out as we reached the flamingos. It brought out all the beautiful highlights in the birds’ feathers.

Lighting

I was hoping to capture the brilliant colours in the feathers and the sudden burst of sunlight worked in my favour this time!!

Equipment

I was using my Nikon D7000 with the 18-105 kit lens.

Inspiration

I was excited to try my hand at capturing as many animals as possible on this trip to the zoo.

Editing

I think that there was only minimal tweaking of the raw image for white balance, shadows, highlights.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Nikon D7000, a Nikon speed light, my kit lens and a prime 50. Sometimes I even pack my 70-300.

Feedback

Practice, practice, practice... but keep having fun with it. You never know what just might work for you!!
