The photo, in spite of vast promotion should be taked with a good camera - too many artifacts on her skin, white areas are blown, technical quality is desired to be better. Bokeh is faux and flat. Your B&W shots are better.

Thanks for your comment.. the bokeh is 100 % real and from the original photo, nothing has been added, yes the ISO was high unfortunately so the photo is a bit grainy. Her facial skin is colored by the fairy lights she was holding.

Great job. Yes its got the odd thing showing but its the lighting used that makes the photo. A friend did this and used a couple more strands. Awesome job

Location
I took this photo at a restaurant called “Brian Lara Rum Eatery” in Johannesburg, South Africa.Time
I took this photo at about 7pm or 8pmLighting
Most of the lighting was ambient lighting from the restaurant, the model was lit with a small tangled set of fairy lights which she held in her handsEquipment
I used canon 650D with a 50mm f1.8 lens... the shot was handheld with no flashInspiration
On a local Facebook page for photographers there was a challenge to replicate a photo using fairy lights (not this like this photo)... after I was finished taking the photo for the challenge we had some fun with the fairy lights. We tried different poses and different ways to light the model and this photo was a result of that experimentation.Editing
I brought the raw image into photoshop and had to really brighten the foreground as it was quite dark especially her face... then I added a slight vignette to darken the background further and make the model pop... after that I just cleared up a few blemishes and that was thatIn my camera bag
I have my Canon 650D, a 50mm lens, a 55-250mm lens and an 18-55mm kit lens. I also have a canon M100 as a spare camera. I also have a small portable tripod that fits in my bag.Feedback
First of all you need to get hold of some small battery powered fairy lights (the thinner the cable the better) I recently tried a similar shoot with two sets of fairy lights (white lights and colored placed together) the combination created more light for the models face which allowed me to use a lower iso. Try find a place that has some nice lights for the background to create some atmosphere and some bokeh (this will also help with some of the lighting) Then get the model to hold the lights close to her face so that they can illuminate her face. Then have some fun and take some great photos... would love to see the results if anyone try’s this.
