I used a tripod and a canon DSLR with a short zoom lensInspiration
I am so happy that this image has received some recognition. In my m finds eye I had wanted tom create an image like this forever. It took some setting up, as I needed to get the depth of field right and also the aperture speed. It took several attempts to get a car in the right place at the same time that the marshall waved his flag in an appropriate manner.Editing
I turned the image into monochrome and did quite a lot of dodging and burning to achieve the desired effect. In my camera bag
On this occasion I had an awful lot of walking to do to get to the far parts of the race track. I only carried bare essentials, a camera and one zoom lens and a spare battery. I also carried a strong carbon fibre tripod.Feedback
The old adage...preparation prevent particularly poor performance is very relevant here. If you get an opportunity to qualify for a photographers bib, and to photograph any kind of race trackside, make the most of the occasion by researching as much as you can about the race, accessibility to different parts of the track and the cars etc taking part. Also, think about the kind of images you want to produce. If its a car race, research previous races and images online to see where all the action takes place.
