Behind The Lens

Location

This photo of my daughter Alora was taken in the fall in our little apple orchard on our property . Our colours during the fall month in Nova Scotia are so vibrant and breathtaking . The wind was blowing and it swept her hair so beautifully onto her face.

Time

I remember when this image was taken as it had been raining days and days before and this was the first day we finally had beautiful weather ! I quickly grabbed her off her bus after 3:30 pm and went straight to go take photos .

Lighting

I love natural light and this was shot with all natural light . There was light filtering in through the leaves in the background and it created a beautiful light and highlighted the gorgeous reds and oranges of the leaves .

Equipment

I love Sony and use strictly Sony cameras . I don’t use flash with my outdoor portraits as I love the look natural light gives me.

Inspiration

I try to take fall portraits of my kids every year , I love to look back on their changes coinciding with the changes of the seasons over the years .

Editing

I brought up the warmth in photoshop.

In my camera bag

I always have my Sony camera as well as my go to lenses (50 mm , 70-200 and my 85mm) I also have suckers or candy to use as bribery for my kids when I want a particular shot ;)

Feedback

Don’t be afraid to capture the non conventional portraits . Portraits can be beautiful even with wind swept hair in the face !
