Location
This was taken inside the actual dance studio of the high school for the dance team.Time
This was late afternoon. Early enough still so we had some ambient light from the windows, but not so early that we had to deal with direct sunlight as the sun had moved to a degree where we were only getting filtered sunlight.Lighting
Well, I basically treated this as a three light setup. I had two umbrellas set up off camera, one on either side of my subject, and I used the ambient window light as my third, back light, light source. I just adjusted the off camera flashes and camera settings to match my ambient light.Equipment
Camera: Canon 7D Lens: Canon EF50mm f/1.4 USM OCF: 2 Yongnuo YN600EX-RT SpeedlitesInspiration
Well, I was there to capture each dancer in a unique dance move/pose. This particular girl had some incredible flexibility and range, so this pose was one of her most impressive ones and we made sure to capture it at it's peak.Editing
Not a whole lot. Mostly just some dodging and burning to even out the exposure and to balance out the colors. In my camera bag
I typically have a wide angle, a medium focus, and a telephoto lens with me at all times. Just to allow myself the full range of focal lengths.Feedback
Honestly, take some time on the front end to dial in your lighting + framing. The pose comes later, but getting the technical stuff out of the way lets you focus on the movement and pose.
