Location
I was camping at Green Point near Tofino, B.C. back in June. While most of the days were rainy, one of the evenings had a spectacular sunset and I was able to get to the beach in time with my camera. This was one of my favourite shots that evening.Time
Evening. This is a sunset photo, so I got down to the beach probably a good half hour before the sunset began and spent the rest of the time while waiting playing with the light on the rocks, sand and shells. Then the true show began.Lighting
It was pretty much the luck of the draw. I think the clouds from the frequently interesting weather that trip really helped though.Equipment
The camera is my old standby Olympus E-410 and I was using the 14-42 lens that it came with. No other equipment as I was hand-holding the camera while standing in the edge of the waves.Inspiration
I love sunsets and I love beaches. When the two come together well, it's a real thing of beauty.Editing
I did a limited amount. Mostly adjusting contrast, highlights etc in Photoshop Elements, but I also used a blending mode or two to get the effect I wanted. In my camera bag
In my bag is my Olympus, the aforementioned 14-42 lens and two other lenses - a macro and a 40-150 lens. I also keep spare batteries and a polarizing filter in the bag.Feedback
It really helps to be out there and prepared with your equipment, just in case that perfect sunset or other time-sensitive event comes along. Have an idea of what you want to photograph, then give it your best shot.
