Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the Jersey Shore. Belmar, NJ

Time

If I remember correctly, it was taken in the afternoon.

Lighting

Cloudy conditions at the time, because of a storm.

Equipment

It’s been a long while since I shot this image. I think it was shot with my Canon 70D and probably my 100-400mm lens. You can tell from the picture that it was windy due to the storm conditions, but I still shot it handheld-no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

I have lived close to the shore all my life, so it’s a regular place for me to visit. My inspiration for choosing to shoot the waves is a photographer named Clark Little. He shoots shorebreak on the beaches of Hawaii, which is my favorite place in the world! Well, I may not actually be in the water with my camera, I’m pretty close to it and can capture some really cool wave action! I’m looking to catch that crest of the wave, the curl of the lip, just like the wave in the opening credits of the original Hawaii 50.

Editing

Yes, I added saturation and contrast to bring up more details in the water.

In my camera bag

At the moment, I have a Canon R6 mirror less camera and the lens I use the most is my 18-135mm. That’s my normal, everyday combo. I also have my Canon 80D and the 100-400mm lens for sports and birding. I also have a Sigma 105mm macro lens a 28mm prime lens, and Manfrotto tripod/monopod.

Feedback

Patience! Keep trying, adjust your timing, settings and angle until you get the image you want.
