Location
This photo was taken at Skomer Island, a wild bird sanctuary just off the wild Pembrokeshire coast of South-west Wales. The island is home to many thousands of nesting seabirds, particularly puffins and Manx shearwaters. Visitors are limited so that the birds are not disturbed, and no bookings are taken for the three daily return ferry trips - it's first come, first served.Time
This was taken mid-morning in beautiful sunlight. The puffins fly out to sea looking for sand-eels, then return to their shallow burrows with the fish held in their impressive bills.Lighting
A nice sunny day accentuates the colours.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D mk11, Canon 28-104 lens.Inspiration
I went to Skomer with the specific intention to shoot lots of photos of seabirds, in particular the puffins.Editing
I always shoot in RAW, using LightRoom to process the images. In my camera bag
Canon 7Dmk11, Canon 100-400mm lens, Canon 28-105 lens, Canon 1.4x convertor, Manfrotto carbon fibre monopod.Feedback
Skomer Island in late-Spring to Summer is a great place for photographing seabirds close-up.
