Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from Level 74 on The Shard, London.

Time

It was taken about 8.25pm as twilight turned to darkness.

Lighting

I faced huge difficulties capturing this image through the window - I had hoped that there was an open air viewing area, but they are all enclosed by huge windows. I had to be innovative in shading the area where my hand-held camera was positioned - my wife sort of enveloped the area as best as she could while I braced myself against the window frame and the floor. I wished that I had brought my tripod!

Equipment

I used my Canon 7D mk2 and my Canon 28-105mm lens.

Inspiration

I had always wanted to get a shot of city lights, and this was a great opportunity to get the shot from high up.

Editing

I shoot in RAW, so used LightRoom to bring out the best of the image.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D mk2, Canon 100-400 IS USM MK2, Canon 28-105mm, Canon 1.4x extender, Canon cable release, Lumix FZ1000, Olympus TG-5.

Feedback

Use a floppy lens hood to eliminate the light reflection in the glass.
