Landscapes like this are often rather difficult because of the wide dynamic range which the camera may not be able to contain.Equipment
Canon EOS 550D with a Canon EF-S 10-22 at 13mm wide angle. As I was travelling I had no tripod (keep it a secret, but I rarely use one).Inspiration
The scenery around Lake Louise is inspiration aplenty.Editing
To get the best from the image I processed the single raw file 3 times at different exposures then combined the resulting images using Photomatix software. When the processing completed I must say I sat back in my seat a little as the combined image really popped - without going over the top. That was the colour version. I also converted to B+W which worked very well too I think. In my camera bag
Two Canon bodies, a Canon 24-105 II L series lens for most work, the Canon 10-22 wide angle, and if I´m trying to shot wildlife or sports the new Canon 100-400 II L series zoom which is a great piece of glass. As I don´t have full frame bodies all those focal lengths are multiplied by 1.6 on the Canon crop sensor.Feedback
About 300 yards to my right when taking this photo were hordes of tourists taking straight Lake Louise shots, as well as the usual high quota of selfie sticks (preserve me from them !). By walking to this vantage point I think I was able to come with a much more interesting image. So look around and use your feet !
