Location
We especially drove up the mountain a bit because there was no snow anywhere further down! We are fortunate enough to live near the Semmering in Lower Austria so it wasn't a very long drive.Time
It was afternoon, and we even had the fortune of some fresh snow!Lighting
I'm very glad that we didn't have direct sunlight because that would have made it harder to get the lighting right for both dogs. Shooting black dogs is always a challenge. It was a bit darker than I would have liked because it started snowing when we got to the location, but it wasn't too bad.Equipment
This was shot with my favorite combination, my Canon EOS 6D and the Canon 85mm f1.8. There was no other equipment used than the two Santa hats ;)Inspiration
The original intention was to take photos for family Christmas cards. I played around with different ideas and accessories, but in the end I loved the simplicity of this picture.Editing
I always try to keep my post processing simple. I adjusted the white balance and added a slight vignette to keep the focus on the dogs.In my camera bag
I usually only take my camera, a Canon EOS 6D, and my favorite lenses, namely the Canon 85mm f1.8 and 200mm f2.8, with me. I also like to have some dog toys, especially squeakers, and sometimes a brush with me because I mostly shoot dogs.Feedback
As always when shooting with dogs have lots of patience. Some dogs don't like having hats or other clothes put on - do not push them, there are other things you can do with them! The most important thing when you work with animals is to always make sure they are comfortable with what you are trying to do. It will definitely show on the pictures.
