Tigger is the 14 year old barn cat at the farm, and despite her age, she's still a pistol, and a damn good huntress. I've never been partial to cats, but she won me over immediately, and in the years I've known her has since become my muse.

Location
I took this photo at a friend's farm in Howell, New Jersey.Time
This was shot in late afternoon.Lighting
It was a slightly overcast day, and I tend to shoot darker because I enjoy moodier photos, so the combination of the two helped me create this.Equipment
Nikon D750 and my Nikkor 85mm 1.4 (my magic lens, as I call it).Inspiration
Tigger has been a source of inspiration in many of my photos. She was 14 years old here, and one firecracker of a barn cat. She and I bonded through my camera, and for whatever reason, she would always let me get interesting shots of her. She inspired me to break out of just photographing horses and turn my lens to other animals.Editing
I converted the photo to black and white in post (using LR) and boosted the contrast, strengthened the blacks, and boosted the whites a tiny bit. That's about it!In my camera bag
I normally carry all my lenses because I never know what I might need. I always have my Nikon D750, Nikkor 85mm 1.4, Nikkor 70-200 2.8, my Sigma 15mm 2.8 fisheye, Nikkor 50mm 1.4, and my Nissin Mark II flash. I always have spare batteries, SD cards, lens cloths, and filters in there too.Feedback
When you can, try and for a relationship with the animals you're working with, even if you've never met them before. When I go into a shoot with a new animal friend, I don't start shooting right away. Instead, I take some time to let them, talk to them, and play with them, and let them get to know me and feel comfortable with me before I turn my camera on them. Once you make that connection, it'll be easy to get great photos of your subject and capture their emotion and soul in your photographs.
