Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo up the hill from our house, a couple of days before the lawn was due to be mowed.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon, in full sun, as the shadows were lengthening.

Lighting

The natural light was bright, coming from behind the mushroom, so I could catch some of its brightness coming through the mushroom gills, lighting the underneath part of the mushroom.

Equipment

I took this with my iPhone 5.

Inspiration

We get interesting mushrooms popping up around us from time to time, so I'm on the lookout for them.

Editing

I did some cropping, and some basic color and contrast balancing in iPhotos.

In my camera bag

Since this photo was taken, I've switched from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 7 Plus.

Feedback

There often are magic things happening at ground level in nature. So it's good to be on the lookout. It's fun to get down low and capture them up close from a dramatic angle.
