Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea, just north of Boston, Massachusetts.

Time

It was around 5 o'clock on an August evening.

Lighting

The sun was still bright behind me, low enough to create some nice shadows showing the contours of the sand and highlighting the contours of my subject as she strolled towards the water.

Equipment

I used my iPhone 5.

Inspiration

I spotted this beautiful woman in her bikini strolling towards the water, with flip-flops in hand, and managed to get a couple of shots while she was in reasonable range for my phone's camera.

Editing

I did some cropping to focus on the subject. I also converted to black and white and adjusted the contrast to show the subtleties of the woman's skin tones and her contours and to play up the combination of shadows on the sand and on her body.

In my camera bag

I only use my iPhone 5 at the moment, so I have it with me most of the time, giving me the chance to catch opportunistic shots like this.

Feedback

I'm an amateur who is always trying to develop my capabilities by experimenting. The key for me to capturing images like this is staying actively aware of my surroundings and trying my best to capture what catches my eye.
