This is the Durango Silverton line in south western Colorado. It's very well kept and a popular summertime ride. It's used on weekends during the winter. I was actually hoping the bokeh effect would make it look like a toy, so thanks!

Great shot but I can't make up my mind whether I like the tilt-shift effect or not.

Great use of the tilt shift affect, making it look like a toy train, and the smoke is awesome!!!

Superb photograph, the blur adds to the drama, well deserving of the Editors Choice and also the finalist status in Tilt Shift contest.

Fabulous shot which, for me, was the winner. Congratulations on being a Runner-up.

Yes, could have easily been seen as a model even if the smoke gives it away...
I`ve seen the effect used many times, but have yet to see it nailed down so well as you`ve done here.
Great piece !!

This was shot mid-morning. Although I really appreciate being out in the field before sunrise, photographing trains depends entirely on their schedule, so I had the chance to sleep late this particular winter morning.Lighting
Shot with natural light. Fortunately there was some cloud cover.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon T4i, which is now my backup camera to a Canon 6D. I used a Canon 100-400 mm lens, as this was shot at a distance.Inspiration
I love old anything! Trains, trucks and wooden barns and cabins are my favorite. With proper care, they'll last forever. Unfortunately, proper care isn't given because of the cost of maintenance, so who knows when they'll be gone forever???Editing
I shot this too long ago. I don't remember, other than some specific blurring. In my camera bag
Canon 6D and wide range of Canon lenses from 17mm to 400mm.Feedback
Research, research, research. I travel long distances for most of the photos I take. Although things like weather is out of our control, knowing schedules and routes of something like trains are important. If you plan on more than one shot, know not only the train's schedule, but make some trial runs to determine how long it takes for you to move and be set up for the next location. Getting there just after the train passes does you no good.
