Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Trim Hot Air Balloon Festival in County Meath, Ireland in 2010.

Time

Around 8.30am just as the balloons were being inflated for the day ahead.

Lighting

I saw an opportunity and I grabbed it. There was a call for press photographers to go for a restricted viewing so I tagged along and got the shot I wanted.

Equipment

Nikon D50, focal length 55mm, f9 at 1/320sec, handheld

Inspiration

Watching the balloons inflate was thrilling. The muted light with the person standing in front of it just made me want to take the shot.

Editing

There wasn't a lot of post processing required. A conversion to black and white and an increase in brightness and contrast.

In my camera bag

Nowadays, a Nikon D750 with a 16-35mm, a 28-300mm and a 50mm prime lens.

Feedback

Go early to festivals and events. Sometimes the setting up can produce stronger images than the finished event.
