Location

I took this shot from McAfee Knob near Roanoke, VA. It is one of the most iconic and photographed place along the Appalachian Trail.

Time

This was taken just before sunset

Lighting

Sunset, not much else to say.

Equipment

I used my DJI Mavic Air 2 for this one. I had intended to take sunset shots with my Canon gear, but the angles were not right from ground level. Going up allowed me to capture the lines of the valley and mountain range heading into the sunset.

Inspiration

Many years of wanting to go but never having the right time. The pandemic kept me at home during the fall this year, so I made sure to cross off all of the local hikes I had not done yet.

Editing

Yes, I used 3 bracketed shots to create this HDR using Nik software.

In my camera bag

Depends on the situation. This hike, I carried the DJI Mavic Air 2, Canon R6, Canon 17-40 f4 EF, Canon 24-105 RF, and a Manfrotto Tripod. If I had planned to also capture birds or other wildlife, I would have also packed my 7D Mark II with my Sigma 150-600 attached.
