Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo on the Foothills Parkway on the southwestern side of the Great Smoky Mountains NPTime
It was very early in the morning, just before sunrise.Lighting
I was actually out there to shoot the stars in the early morning hours, then hung around for sunrise as the clouds moved in. While the sun was still behind the mountain peak, it lit up the clouds in these fantastic colors. To capture everything, including the greenery in the foreground, I used a 5 bracket exposure for HDR.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D MII with a Manfrotto Tripod and Canon 17-40 lens.Inspiration
I have always loved the fog photos of the Smokies with the mountains in the distance, and this was the first time I was in the right place at the right time.Editing
I used NIK HDR Efx to blend the exposuresIn my camera bag
I seem to always have my wide angle lenses, Canon 17-40 and Tokina 11-16. Most of the time I also have my Sigma 150-600 as well for wildlife. I currently have only the one body, Canon 7D MII. I always my Manfrotto tripod close at hand, and a couple of good flashlights (including one with red led).Feedback
Get up early. Go far away from the crowds, maybe somewhere you have never been before. Experiment with your camera settings, memory cards are cheap. Experiment in post processing. Share. Ask questions. Then do it all again. Nothing beats practice.
