Statue 'The Green' Tienen Belgium
Statue De GroeneThe bronze statue by the famous Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux stands in front of the legendary 'boomkes', a park of wild chestnuts. It was unveiled on Sunday, August 6, 1905, commemorating the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence. Due to the patina of the bronze, this monument has turned green, so that it is popularly referred to as 'De Groene' or 'Groene Jef'. Waving the saber with his arm raised and leaning on the rifle, he must portray in a pathetic manner the fighting skills of the Teenagers. The sculptor Jef Lambeaux, who is also the author of the Brabo fountain on Antwerp's Grote Markt, tried to express the idea in a romantic-realistic way.
