This bison was very excited to have his photo taken...I was visiting my daughter in Kansas and she arranged for a personal tour of Maxwell Wildlife Refuge near Canton KS.Time
This an early morning trip to the refuge to get a personal tour of the area.Lighting
The light was perfect on this day...clear skies with early sun rising over the hills.Equipment
Canon T5, 24-70 mm Canon lens (handheld)Inspiration
My daughter is a district wildlife biologist for the Dept of of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. She arranged for us to have a personal drive through of the refuge to get up close and personal with the resident bison. This fellow just walked up to our vehicle as if he wanted to be photographed!Editing
very little post processing. In my camera bag
My usual go-to lens in 600mm but in this instance I knew we were not going to be too far away so I also brought the 24-70mm. These are the two lenses I carry along with 70-200 G2 Tamron.Feedback
Wildlife is always to be revered and respected. These animals are used to the vehicles we used so they were not timid. In most circumstances, keeping your distance is best and usually the most visually pleasing as it allows you to maintain the surrounding environment of the animal in your photo. Close ups are best viewed at a distance using a longer lens when dealing with wildlife
